Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data ParcelGH collects, how we use it, and your rights under Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843). By using our website or mobile app, you agree to this policy.

1Who We Are

ParcelGH operates the website at parcelgh.com and the ParcelGH mobile application (iOS and Android). We are the data controller responsible for your personal information.

2What Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

Account data

Name, email address, phone number, password (hashed)

Booking data

Sender & receiver names, phone numbers, parcel description, pickup/delivery addresses, payment method

Payment data

Transaction reference, payment method type. We do not store card numbers or Mobile Money PINs — these are handled by Paystack

Tracking data

Parcel status updates, timestamps, location of terminal

Device & usage data

IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, app version

Communications

Messages sent to our support team via WhatsApp, email, or in-app chat

3How We Use Your Data

We use your personal data to:

  • Process and confirm parcel bookings
  • Send booking confirmations, tracking updates, and OTP codes via SMS and email
  • Share booking details with the relevant carrier to fulfil your delivery
  • Process payments via Paystack
  • Resolve disputes and handle customer support requests
  • Comply with legal obligations under Ghanaian law
  • Improve our platform through anonymised usage analytics
  • Send service updates or promotional messages (you can opt out at any time)

4Legal Basis for Processing

We process your data on the following legal grounds under Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843):

  • Contract: Processing is necessary to fulfil your booking and deliver our services
  • Consent: For marketing communications and optional features
  • Legal obligation: For fraud prevention, tax records, and law enforcement requests
  • Legitimate interests: For platform security, analytics, and service improvement

5Who We Share Your Data With

We share your data only where necessary:

  • Carriers: Sender/receiver name, phone number, and parcel details are shared with the booked carrier to fulfil your delivery
  • Paystack: Payment processing. Governed by Paystack's own privacy policy
  • Twilio: SMS notifications (tracking updates, OTPs)
  • Resend: Transactional email delivery
  • Vercel / Neon: Cloud infrastructure and database hosting
  • Law enforcement: Where required by Ghanaian law or court order

We do not sell your personal data to any third party.

6Cookies & Tracking

Our website uses the following types of cookies:

  • Essential cookies: Required for login sessions and booking flow. Cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics cookies: Anonymous usage data to help us improve the platform. You can opt out.

The ParcelGH mobile app uses local device storage for session management. No third-party advertising trackers are used in the app.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies will affect your ability to log in and complete bookings.

7Data Retention

We retain your personal data for the following periods:

  • Account data: For the lifetime of your account, plus 2 years after deletion
  • Booking data: 3 years from the booking date (for legal and audit purposes)
  • Payment records: 7 years (as required by Ghanaian tax law)
  • Support communications: 2 years

After these periods, data is securely deleted or anonymised.

8Your Rights

Under Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012, you have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction: Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Deletion: Request that we delete your account and personal data
  • Objection: Object to processing for marketing purposes
  • Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format

9Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including:

  • HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
  • Hashed passwords — we never store passwords in plain text
  • Access controls — staff can only access data necessary for their role
  • Secure cloud infrastructure (Vercel, Neon) with encryption at rest

In the event of a data breach that affects your rights, we will notify you and the Data Protection Commission within the timeframes required by law.

10Children's Privacy

ParcelGH is not intended for use by persons under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with their data, contact us at privacy@parcelgh.com and we will delete it promptly.

11Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users by email and post the updated version on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of the platform after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
