How to Send a Parcel from Accra to Kumasi: Your Options in 2026

Your customer is in Kumasi and asks: how will I get it? Here are the ways to send a parcel from Accra to Kumasi today, what each one costs you in time and risk, and how to protect your parcel.

Your customer is in Kumasi and asks the question every seller knows: "How will I get it?" Sending a parcel from Accra to Kumasi is something thousands of people do every day, but the way you choose decides how much time it takes you, and how sure you can be that it arrives.

Option 1: Take it to the bus station yourself

Most parcels from Accra to Kumasi travel on intercity buses. You go to the station, hand the parcel in at the parcel desk, pay the fare and get a waybill (receipt). The receiver collects it at the station in Kumasi.

Good: it is the most common way and works every day. Watch out: you lose time travelling to the station and queuing, and the receiver has to travel to the Kumasi station to collect it. If you need an update, you usually have to call the station.

Option 2: Give it to a driver

Some people hand a parcel directly to a driver they know. It can be quick, but there is no receipt, no record and nobody to call if something goes wrong.

Option 3: A courier company

Courier companies can pick up and deliver to the door. It is convenient, but for sellers who send several parcels a week it can become expensive, and not every company covers every route.

What does it cost to send a parcel from Accra to Kumasi?

The price depends on three things:

  • The size and weight of the parcel: bus companies charge more for bigger and heavier items.
  • Pickup and delivery: if someone collects the parcel from you or delivers it to the door, that is an extra cost.
  • Your time: a trip to the station and back is part of the real cost, especially if you send often.

Always ask for the price before you hand the parcel over, and keep the receipt.

How long does it take?

The bus journey between Accra and Kumasi takes around four to six hours, depending on traffic and stops. Add the time to get the parcel to the station, wait for the departure and for the receiver to collect it. Many parcels arrive the same day; some arrive the next day.

How to protect your parcel

  • Keep your waybill safe and take a photo of it straight away.
  • Take a photo of the parcel before you hand it over, sealed and labelled.
  • Write the receiver's name and phone number on the parcel, not only on the waybill.
  • Note the bus details: company, departure time and, if possible, the bus number. Send them to the receiver.
  • Save the station's number so you can ask when it should arrive.
